Stolen Kia Soul Sparks Wild Chase Through Southeast Los Angeles

SOUTHEAST LOS ANGELES — A stolen Kia Soul triggered a dramatic nighttime police pursuit through the streets of Southeast Los Angeles, with aerial footage capturing the chase as it wound through the intersection of South Main Street and 111th Street.
The incident, recorded on February 26, 2024, showed LAPD patrol units pursuing the stolen vehicle through a residential neighborhood at approximately 31 mph. Aerial footage from a news helicopter captured multiple police cruisers with lights and sirens blazing as they tracked the suspect vehicle through the darkened streets.
The pursuit unfolded in the 11100 block of South Main Street near West and East 111th Street in the Southeast Los Angeles area, a densely populated neighborhood where late-night chases pose significant dangers to residents and pedestrians.
Kia and Hyundai vehicles have been a frequent target of car thieves across the country in recent years, following the spread of a social media trend that demonstrated how to start certain models without a key. The automakers have since issued software updates to address the vulnerability.
